ELD. MARFO H .C.

“The greater number, however, suffer because of their own wrong course of action. They disregard the principles of health by their habits of eating, drinking, dressing, and working. Their transgression of nature’s laws produces the sure result; and when sickness comes upon them, many do not credit their suffering to the true cause, but murmur against God because of their afflictions. But God is not responsible for the suffering that follows disregard of natural law. {MH 234.2}

The Health and Temperance Department of Bantama Seventh-day Adventist church is made up of various dynamic health professionals who work tirelessly to promote good health.

A newspaper report has disclosed that the Adventist Lifestyle leads to longer and better health. Indisputably, wholeness and health have been an emphasis of the Seventh-day Adventist church since the 1860s when the church began. The Bible reminds us that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and we have been entrusted with the privilege of maintaining and improving our spiritual, mental, social and physical well being through health reform. This Department therefore promotes good health to help achieve this goal of wholeness.

ACTIVITIES AND OBJECTIVES

The Bantama Health and Temperance Department promotes the health and well-being of Church members and the community at large. Church members are always encouraged to adopt a healthy diet lifestyle and abstain from injurious drugs and alcohol. This Department organises programmes for the church members and share up-to-date health information.

Historically, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has always had a holistic approach to health. An in-depth research by health experts in United States of America has revealed that Americans who regard themselves as the Seventh-Day Adventists have an average life expectancy of 89, about a decade longer than the average American. One of the basic tenets of the religion is that, it’s important to cherish the body that’s on loan from God, which means no smoking, alcohol abuse or overindulging in sweets.
